Actually, my kids are looking more tame than wild as I've caught them during some moments of quiet play together. But, they are wearing some new PJ pants I've just made using the Wild Thyme Collection by Carolyn Gavin. I paired the whimsical stripe print with some Riley Blake designs from Hooty Hoot and Summer Song. I just love how they turned out.
I thought about that book by Maurice Sendak all morning as I quietly stole snapshots of their play.
Looking through the camera, I could feel my focus narrow. There were moments I felt like I was actually seeing the world through their eyes, and through Max's eyes, the "wildest thing of all."
While there are endless interpretations of this tale that is at once simple and complex, I always find it bittersweet. Frustrated by the confines of his mom's rules, Max escapes through his imagination. Her love brings him back, but he returns having lost a bit of his innocence.
In the meantime kids, please stay as you are for just a while longer, lounge and play in your pajamas and "let the wild rumpus start"!
One of my favorite things is watching my 2 1/2yr old granddaughter play away in her play room when she's solely engaged it what interests her and couldn't care less about anyone else! And now I think she needs some new jammies!

I'm very curious .... what pattern did you use for the PJ's? Elastic or drawstring waist? I'm inspired by your PJ's and yet need a pattern first!
