We've been sewing together again here at Hawthorne Threads! Our wonderful staff has been itching for a new project to do together, and when I had come up with this round-up of Handmade Mother's Day Gifts, we all had ideas for mom!
From the list, everyone had the opportunity to choose which gift they'd like to make for their mom.
Aside from a few new staff members learning to sew for the first time, I think my favorite part was hearing everyone talk about which fabrics their mom might like, thoughtfully pondering the choices and hoping she'd love them.
For my own mom, I opted for the tablet case. I think I changed my fabric plan at least a half a dozen times, finally deciding to center it around the gorgeous new Shimmer line. Then to give it a bit of substance, I paired it with some World Tour Canvas and Bark and Branch Canvas. To protect the screen, I used our own Minky fabric for the lining.
As you can see, the tablet cover was a popular choice. I just love the variety! You can easily adjust the pattern according to the dimensions of the device you'd like to cover, be it an iPAD, a Kindle, or any kind of tablet. Next we have a pair of beautiful new fabric slippers! Becky used some Anna Maria Horner Dowry as well as some of Anna's out of print flannel that she's had squirreled away. Again, the minky was a great choice for the lining!
These sew up so quickly you can easily add some fun details. Anya and Alanna had some fun experimenting with different stitches!
Any of these would look great in my kitchen, that's for sure. I love the eclectic fabric choices!
There were a few more projects in the works but those were finished just under the wire for Mother's Day so we didn't have a chance to snap any photos. I hope all the moms enjoyed their gifts! I know my mom loved her tablet case, as well as the infinity scarf I whipped up just this morning!
Truth be told, I picked out the fabric to make her a scarf for Christmas. Since it coordinates so well with her spiffy new tablet cover I thought it was high time. It looks like I'm forgiven! Happy Mother's Day to my mom and all moms everywhere!
If anyone at home sewed along with us I hope you'll share your photos in the comment section below!
