Pantone has released their Spring Fashion Trend Report, and at first glance it appears to be a rather eclectic bunch. We have ethereal soft pastels mixed with earth tones and punchy bright tones. I don't fancy myself a color or fashion expert, but I can read in between the lines when it comes to finding deeper meaning. Pantone calls this palette "En Plein Air;" my high school French tells me these are colors "in the open air." Taking a cue from nature, they present a palette of shades you can expect to find in the world around us. The fashion world can be quite contrived so I have to say this en plein air forecast is a refreshing one!
I've taken their cue and have come up with our own set of fabric choices for each of the colors in the palette. Ahem - perhaps we're more fashionable than I thought over here at Hawthorne Threads, for many of the colors are found in our own fabric collections! You'll notice some selections from Coyote, Calliope, Etched, and Isometry! We've already had fun playing with different groupings of these fabrics together. There are so many color stories to tell with en plein air, and what better source for inspiration than nature itself! We love Design Seeds and found some beautiful vignettes featuring various combinations of en plein air shades.
We hope you'll have fun sewing with this new color set! Let those windows open wide and the natural world will be en plein air, just waiting to inspire your next design!
