Charlie and I moved both our shop and home this summer and it's been quite a whirldwind of boxes and bolts - actually, make that a tornado we couldn't have forecasted. But with lots of help from family, the kids back in school, and the shop humming along beautifully I've finally had the time to settle in and enjoy our space. I had the pleasure of hosting my sister in law's baby shower this past weekend, and there's nothing quite like a party that sparks motivation to make a new house a home!
Last week I hinted at a project in the works with this lovely array of mustard and aqua hues from our shop. (Collections are Modern Meadow, Heirloom, Secret Garden, Innocent Crush, and Cut Out & Keep)
Throw in a 60% off all canvas sale at Michael's, and my husband Charlie to painstakenly hang the squares, we now have this!
After having moved the shop from our house to a commercial space, it's nice to have a little piece of Hawthorne Threads at home to enjoy. I always have a great time putting together virtual quilts on our shop's home page gallery, I thought it would be fun to do a life size version by way of an art collage.
I so loved how it turned out and set my sights on the wall's counterpart. For a bit of contrast I wanted a single print with a really bold design, and immediately thought of Anna Maria's Totem print. The colors are versatile with seasonal decor and the repeat is big enough to spread over a 36" x 44" canvas.
It fills the space beautifully, and is such a cheerful print to welcome me in the morning as I walk down to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee and start the day.
If you are looking for a way that is affordable and simple to brighten up your home, I'd pop in to your local craft store and pick up some blank canvasas. Or, if they don't happen to be on sale, you can always use the simple wooden stretchers for the same effect. For the back, I used a heavy duty staple gun I picked up at a local hardwarde store.
And I didn't stop there folks. I was having way too much fun!
Laura Gunn's Big Poppy print was just begging to be hung up. It's based on her own oil paintings after all!
I hope you'll try this project to make your own house feel more like home! I also had quite a bit of time behind my sewing machine and I'll share more on that soon.
