We seem to approach our designs with the concept first and its utility as a secondary consideration. It's so nice when we create a pattern and then realize its versatility across all sorts of sewing projects. That certainly seems to be the case with our new Zambezi line, as we keep dreaming up a steady stream of ideas from quilts and decor to apparel and accessories. We're so happy so many of you liked our Jewelry Roll last week! Next up, we've moved on to apparel!
The supporting prints in this African themed collection offer a truly wonderful choice for clothing. I can certainly see any of them in my own closet! These allover patterns are graphic but in a natural organic way, allowing them to stand beautifully on their own. For our first wearable piece, we chose the Amelia Dress from Green Bee Design. Our Becky has been eager to try it out and jumped at the chance to volunteer as tribute!
While any of the patterns would make for a beautiful dress, we went with Woven Diamonds in Stone for the body, and added Thatched in Desert Rose for the trim, which is of course optional.
As you can see, the dress features a bias cut and easy fit, making it a great choice for everyday wear. The rose trim around the neck, arms, and hem adds just a little touch of color and femininity to this wardrobe staple.
Becky's all done with work and ready to take her new Amelia Dress out for a test drive. If a little Zambezi makes its way into your spring wardrobe, we hope you'll share with us and tag your photo with #ZambeziFabric on Instagram and Facebook. Happy Sewing!
