If you've not yet sewn with our new Celestial fabric collection, we invite you to let the stars be your guide. For thousands of years mankind has looked to the heavens for guidance and inspiration so it's easy to let that same sense of wonder move you to create some truly stellar projects. Among the myriad makes you might want to sew with this collection of constellations, meteor showers and zodiacs, a natural choice would of course be nursery accessories and bedding. A visit from my nieces offered a fun opportunity to put together a little slumber party for my daughter and her cousins. And if Pinterest is any indication, any good sleepover calls for a Playhouse Teepee these days, and this pattern from Simple Simon & Co sews up beautifully.
The tee pee's towering height certainly captured the wonder and awe of the littlest cousin. Her awed reaction is everything we were hoping for!
For the main body of the tent, the 5" Constellations offer fun pops of color, and plenty of visual interest for kids running in and out. It's also great fun for them to pick out their favorite animals, play eye spy, or any number of childhood games.
We also sewed up a number of cute plush toys, and soft books in a variety of Celestial Fabrics. The Playmat and Toy Pattern is available in our shop from Pat Bravo. It's a great little variety of items for a baby shower, or any occasion for new parents and their little one.
We based the soft books on this tutorial from Homegrown Happy. It's a fun way to show off the 5" constellations on each of the pages, calling for a bit of hand embroidery if the time allows. But mostly for kids, it seems these little plush items are more often things to commandeer and hide from your big sister!
When competition becomes too fierce for those coveted plush toys, you know that means it's story time!
My daughter is always happy to indulge her younger cousins with stories. For a little while, she even managed to have them rapt with attention as they learned about outer space and the Greek Myths behind those beautiful constellations.
By now you've surely spotted another slumber party necessity. The girls all have coordinating nightgowns sewn up in the Constellations and Star Charts fabrics. My daughter Annie is wearing Constellations in Succulent, while Annalise has the subtle Star Charts in Aspen.
When she's moving slowly enough to spot, you can see Adelina wearing the Constellations in Midnight.
Little Ava is wearing our Star Charts in Tulip. All of the gowns were sewn together using this Tutorial, my go-to pattern for a few years now and you can see other nightgowns here, here, and here.
With a knit top, the gowns are easy and comfortable, and are a great piece that your child can wear throughout the year.
For the sake of time, we used some store-bought t-shirts for the bodice, as does the tutorial. But you could certainly make your own with some Solid Knit Fabric.
The girls looked great in their matching jammies, and you could tell this little one was particularly chuffed that she got a nightgown just like her biggest cousin.
To round out the fun event, we also gave the girls some large scale pillows that are great for lying on, or using as cushions. Pom pom fringed pillows are made from our Panel projects that include a 20" animal constellation along with coordinating strips to make a 26" finished pillow cushion. And finally, you can also see the sprocket pillow, which offers a fun way to fussy cut the 8" Constellations. The Sproket Pillow Pattern is available as a Free Tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew.
While our main Celestial fabrics are offered in 8 color stories, we've made the Star Charts and Stardust fabrics a basic, so you can enjoy those in our current offering of 51 in house colors! That should be enough to put stars in your eyes!
