Watch our Sewing Inspiration VIDEO for Botany!
We love Pantone's Color of the Year so much, we created a collection in its honor! Botany celebrates the energy, freshness, and renewal that springs from new growth. Our design office has been looking like an indoor jungle, and we couldn't be happier. Much like a plant bends to the light, I find myself pulled to this little corner of the room that begs for contemplation and relaxation.
We had a lot of fun sewing up some beautiful items with this new fabric collection. Those needle-turn applique pillows are a great addition to our Butterfly Chair. You'll find the Horticultural pattern from Heather Jones available in our shop. We paired our Botany Seeds prints with Essex Yarn Dye in Flax, quilting around the outlines of the leaves in concentric rings for a natural, understated look.
Not to be left out of the makeover, Meaghan and I got some fancy new frocks!
Here's our Banana Leaf fabric done two ways! We are ready for summer cocktails and patio seating because this print exudes fun and flatters all different complexions.
You might remember Meaghan's first Kim Dress she sewed up with our Mariner fabric; well, she loved it so much she wanted another! The pattern is from By Hand London and features a classic fit and flare option that's as flattering as it is timeless.
Meaghan opted once again for the tied shoulder straps as she loves the adjustment if offers. Princess seams at the bust make for a simple but tailored look.
The dress closes with an invisible zipper. Our lives are so much easier now that we have an invisible zipper foot - highly recommend one!
Meaghan modified the pattern to go with a pleated skirt, and paired the dress with a slim belt for a pretty fabulous look.
As for me, I've been dying to try out the Macaron pattern from Colette.
A fitted bodice with darts give this dress a slim look, but the large pleats actually give this dress a fuller, comfortable feel than its silhouette implies. Meaning, I can actually enjoy all the goodies at a party and not feel like the dress is too confining at the end of the day.
I really like the midriff band, seen here with a bit of piping. That same Cambridge Cotton Lawn is used in the contrast yoke and sleeves, giving this dress a really unique look. And, I'm always got a soft spot for any dress with pockets!
Not only are they ideal for when you don't know what to do with your hands during photo shoots, but the slight bulk in the skirt from the large pleats hides them perfectly.
The slightly scalloped shaped bodice gives this dress a very nice silhouette and helps to give shape to anyone with a small bust.
Even if you don't have a green thumb, our Botany fabrics are a great way to help your wardrobe grow for spring!
As for other fun sewing projects, we really love this collection for any room in the home. Much like these fabrics real life counterparts, these colors can easily be incorporated anywhere. The fabric has certainly breathed some life into our office!
We made a simple mini quilt and hung it as a wall hanging with a bit of fringe. It's a great way to add some handmade artwork to your walls!
Those round bottomed fabric storage bins are great for stashing yarn, kids toys, plants and more. You'll find the simple tutorial here from Film in the Fridge. As for those beautiful market bags, they are fully lined and sew up from a single panel of the Conservatory and Greenery color options!
A little Mod Podge makes for a quick and easy no sew project as well. It's amazing what a little greenery can do for a room!
These are a great project to do with kids at home, and make for a fun way to liven up an herb garden. We also think they make great gifts to bring to your host this spring and summer.
We hope you're feeling inspired to add a little greenery to your home and wardrobe! And for even more fabric options for this Pantone Color of the year, see our variety of In House Basics!
