Please Enjoy our Sewing Inspiration Video for Brave!
Put your Brave face on for a proper introduction to one of our new In House designed and printed fabric collection! We invite you to travel to a medieval kingdom where gallant knights and intrepid girls battle fearsome dragons. Overlapping color stories offer a fun option for shared spaces for boys and girls alike.
We took the opportunity to sew up some items that would be great for children's bedrooms and playrooms. I always love a good reading nook and have Pinned plenty of tutorials over the years, but didn't have the occasion to try one out.
The Hula Hoop Tent Tutorial from A Beautiful Mess fit the medieval style and theme of our Brave fabrics perfectly.
I remember many an afternoon spent with my sisters gathering blankets and sheets to make a fort, a tent, or a teepee of sorts. For a child, any covered space away from the prying eyes of adults presents a magical place full of possibility.
The large-scale use of the fabric offers a great opportunity to feature an allover scenic print, like the Castle Raid. We chose the Jade and Robin's Egg colors but it also comes in Ink and Marigold.
These tents make for great little reading nooks.
Whether your little one can read or enjoys being read to, these cozy spaces will add a sense of adventure to any story.
My son has quite the soft spot for his sweet little cousin, and will always oblige her every whim.
As will my daughter. Those bean bag chairs offer a comfortable spot, making the tent all the more cozy and welcoming. We used coordinating Minky for the bottom for an extra plush look. The super simple Bean Bag Chair Tutorial is available over at Project Nursery.
For each of the tented nooks, we sewed up a couple of pillows. The Project Panel makes for a quick throw pillow, and I always love fussy cutting scenes for log cabin patchwork pillows.
As for the apparel, Simple Life Pattern Co's Lucy Dress with the Knit Bodice add-on made for a sweet outfit for my niece.
The peony On Target pockets offered a nice contrast to the Plumes in Valor and Turquoise Knit. The dress has a curved bodice that makes the gathered skirt appear slightly hi-low.
This little one learned pretty quickly that she could stash the little people into those very spacious pockets.
The Lucy is sized through 12 so we sewed one up for my daughter as well. She chose the Dragons in Lake for her skirt, paired with an Icy Mint Knit.
The Classic Oxford Button Up Shirt from Peek-a-Boo Patterns is our go-to for my son. I know other moms similarly struggle to get their boys to wear anything other than athletic wear, but on the rare occasion that calls for a collared shirt, you can't go wrong with this classic. We chose the fun yet sophisticated Medieval Kingdom map design and he didn't even put up a fuss!
As has become customary, our Brave collection includes a faux patchwork design. Here's a peek at the Diamond in the Rough all quilted up. The back is the very striking Dragon Quilt Panel, seen in full here.
A colorful quilt spread out across the floor is an inviting sight for anyone of any age.
We rounded up all of our medieval storybooks, toted around in a fun bag featuring the various colors of On Target colors paired with some lovely Cloud 9 Tinted Denim.
And here's a peek at the other Diamond in the Rough faux patchwork quilted up for my twin nephews. Just don't ask me who is who!
We're so happy with how the colors came out, looking rather regal here in the Chivalry color story. For this pair of brave boys, we chose Chain Mail in Marigold for a pair of baby pants from the Modern Baby Pattern Set from Green Bee.
And finally, we couldn't resist this Knight Hat Tutorial from Happy Cupcake Creations. Chain Mail in Sage worked perfectly, along with some Pebble Minky for added softness. See here for the Feather Tutorial.
