Please Enjoy our Sewing Inspiration VIDEO for Redwood!
John Muir writes that "between every two pines is a doorway to a new world," and with one of our newer In House designed and printed collections, we'd like to invite you on a majestic walk in the woods, joining my twin nephews as they explore these handsome fabrics.
Follow a mama bear and her cubs in the Pacific Northwest, where towering Redwood trees stand as tranquil sentries to another time. Their humbling heights instill a sense of awe and wonder no superlative can capture.
The feeling is not unlike the one a new parent feels, making this collection a particularly wonderful choice for nurseries, children's bedrooms, and play areas. With its natural hand and nurturing spirit these designs lend themselves beautifully to lovingly made bedding, quilts, apparel and accessories mamas and cubs will adore.
We had lots of fun coming up with projects to transform our space into a woodland nursery, starting with our go-to Fitted Crib Sheet Tutorial from Project Nursery.
Any of the Redwood fabrics would be beautiful choices for crib sheets, but we finally settled on A Walk in the Woods in Aspen as it gives the bedding a clean, crisp look. And since we print to order, all of our fabrics are available for purchase on our 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, perfect for bedding and quilts.
I'm not sure if there's anything sweeter than baby toes on fresh bedding.
We also sewed up a trio of pillows for our Redwood nursery. The two at the back use our Redwood Project Panel, finishing up as a set of 20" pillows. The rectangular bear silhouette pillow in front compliments the collection beautifully, made using the Wild Animals Scrappy Applique Pattern from Shannon Brinkley. The fabrics are our Thatched Basic in Redwood color coordinates. Like all of our In House Basics, Thatched is available in over 70 colors, so these are especially helpful to incorporate into patchwork projects.
For our crib skirt, we went with Redwood Forest in Aspen as it provides a really lovely contrast to the white crib sheet. If you don't already have a pattern, we like this adjustable Crib Skirt Tutorial from View Along the Way.
We often include Quilt Panels in our house designed fabric collections, and we were excited to offer a slightly more modern option for Redwood. We sewed up this Redwood Quilt Panel in the Crib Size, but it is also available in a larger 56" x 72" size.
And if Pinterest is any indication, then any modern nursery isn't complete without a play tent of sorts! We used this A-Frame Tent Tutorial from Wee Style Guide and found it to be a quick sew with lots of impact. We selected the Poplin fabric for our tent, but if you're looking for an even sturdier option our Linen Cotton Canvas would be a beautiful choice. The fabric print is our Tahoe in Lake.
For the other side of our quilt, we used the Faux Patchwork print for a deceptively quick sew.
It's great for quick quilts, pillows, or even a baby changing cover.
We think you'll find these fabrics rich in color and detail, perfect for both naptime and playtime.
Of course these little guys needed matching outfits as well, so we sewed up some Modern Baby Pants, pattern from Green Bee Design available in our shop.
This little bear family was just asking to be fussy cut, so we jumped at the chance to applieque some baby onesies. Fabric is Don't Feed the Bears in Aspen.
These little guys on the other hand will gladly accept any food, or toys to munch on!
These teething rings are a quick sew using this tutorial from Willow and Stich.
We hope you had fun hanging out with these two, and are feeling inspired to sew with Redwood! Please tag your fabrics with #RedwoodFabric on social media so we can share!
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this behind the scenes video of our Redwood shoot!
