One of our newer collections was born from our love for our national parks, and a good old fashioned Mountain Road Trip. An exploration of rolling hills, mountain peaks, and the friendly wildlife inhabited therein, the collection celebrates a slower pace, inviting families to breathe in the great outdoors. This fabric range not only provides fun inspiration to take with you on your family road trips, it also offers a nice way to commemorate the vacation upon your return. Both my daughter and her friend are no strangers to the outdoors, and even shared a summer week together in the Canadian wilderness.
They got to reminisce about that trip with some cozy fireside projects we sewed up with the collection.
Naturally there were plenty of giggles and more than a little hot chocolate.
With two middle school aged kids at home, sleepovers have become standard weekend practice, and there's nothing that will unleash a squealing giggle fit quite like a matching set of PJs (except maybe more hot chocolate). We highly recommend the Night Garden Pajama Pattern from Sew to Grow. We paired it with our Rayon option which really makes the fit super drapey and extra comfy. The contrast cuff offers a fun way to add some whimsy to the design.
Both girls are 11 but my daughter has gotten so tall that we modified the Women's Size, and made some minor fit adjustments for her friend with the Child size.
Of course, no fireside sleepover is complete without some proper camp chairs, cozy quilts, and s'mores. As luck would have it, we chanced upon some old director's chairs and re-covered them with our Burly Plaid, printed on our Canvas option. We used this simple Tutorial for a super simple make.
They made for a comfortable spot with our Mountain Road Trip pillow, which is offered in our shop as a Panel Project. The quilt is our Walk in the Woods Faux Patchwork print, quilted and backed with this glorious Owl Faux Fur. As someone who is always cold I'm coming round to the idea that all quilts should be backed in faux fur...
The second quilt is our Traveling Bear Log Cabin Faux Patchwork print, all quilted and bound.
We love how the design offers a way to show off our handsome bear.
We still have heaps of Halloween candy at home, but even this mom can't say no to s'mores.
Gooey chocolate toasted marshmallow perfection.
Apparently I can't say no to more hot chocolate either.
The cup cozy's are another quick make kids and adults can enjoy both at home and on your next road trip! We used the tutorial from See Kate Sew. The fabrics are Bear Paw and Camping Gear, both printed on our Poplin option.
Both girls loved snuggling with their cozy quilts, reminiscing about old and new adventures to be shared together.
Here's a great peek at that bear paw block, and that plush faux fur. My daughter declared she's never giving up this quilt, and it's remained on her bed since.
It's tough to beat a compliment like that! We hope we've inspired some fall sewing projects. Remember all of our In House collections are available in various widths on Poplin, Quilting Cotton, Linen Cotton Canvas, Rayon and Jersey and Interlock Knit! Be sure to tag your projects with #hawthornesupplyco and #mountainroadtripfabric so we can share!
